Getting Here

Rothe House, a historic treasure in the heart of Kilkenny, is easily accessible by various means.

Situated on Parliament Street, it is just a short walk from Kilkenny Castle (10 mins) or St. Canice’s Cathedral (5 mins). Car parking is available nearby at the Market Yard or Market Cross. McDonagh Station is the main train/bus station and is an easy walk or short taxi ride away. This beautifully preserved merchant townhouse makes it an essential stop on any Kilkenny itinerary.

We are happy to accept walk-in bookings but to secure your spot on one of our highly recommended guided tours, we advise booking in advance. 

Pre-book your Garden Tour experience

Garden tours are available by pre-booking only and based on minimum numbers. 

No time limit on visits to Rothe House & Garden

Once you have purchased your entry ticket there is no time limit on your visit. If you avail of the guided tour, you are welcome to retrace your steps if you wish to spend more time in the house.

Walking
Directions:

Kilkenny is a very walkable city. From Kilkenny Castle we are a 10 minute walk straight down High St, onto Parliament St and directly opposite the Smithwick’s Experience. St Canice’s Cathedral is a further 5 minute walk. 

Driving
Directions:

The closest car parks are at the nearby Market Yard or Market Cross. Parking is charged hourly at departure so no need to worry about running out of time! 

Coach
Parking:

Free and secure coach parking is available at St. Canice’s Place, entrance is just off St Francis Abbey Bridge. MP4V+GX Kilkenny. An easy 5 minute walk will bring you to Rothe House. 

Public
Transport:

Kilkenny is serviced by two bus routes, both of which stop on Parliament St, almost outside our door. We’re located between the City bus stops Parliament Street (KK1, KK2) and Market Yard (KK1, KK2, 838).

Our courtyards and gardens are wheelchair accessible. The historic cobblestones in the courtyards and many staircases within the houses could be challenging for those with mobility issues. There are braille panels on the garden walls. We allow guide and therapy dogs to the premises. Due to the delicate nature of the site and especially the restored garden, we cannot allow other dogs. Please call us in advance on 056-7722893 to make arrangements.
