Ministers Darragh O’Brien and Malcolm Noonan were among the guests of honour at a Heritage Council event hosted by Rothe House and Garden recently.

On Monday, January 15th, the Heritage Council of Ireland held an awards ceremony for the first graduates of the All-Ireland Heritage Skills Programme; a course aimed at preserving building skills that are at risk of being lost.

These skills include traditional carpentry, lime work, thatching, blacksmithing, and stonemasonry.

The ceremony was attended by both the Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, and the Minister of State for Nature, Heritage, and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, along with Chief Executive of the Heritage Council, Virginia Teehan.

As one of Kilkenny’s most important and historic buildings in terms of our built heritage, Rothe House was delighted to be able to offer the 16th-century Phelan Room and 17th-century Tudor Kitchen for use on the day.
