Have we seen the last of the sun for 2025 as we bid farewell to October? Who knows!
What we do know is that there is still lots to do in the garden as the nip in the air indicates the frosty nights are fast approaching.

However, this is great for gardeners as it brings the growing season to an end! Plants go to sleep and this allows them to store their energy for the next season.

The leaves have almost finished falling and are bagged up and stored in a corner of the garden for use next year in the form of leaf mould.

In the garden at Rothe House, the structures and shapes of the evergreen plants are very striking at this time of year.

The Holm Oak trees have had their prune and are looking very neat.
The Buxus hedges give great backbone to the borders and the hellebores are coming in their prime now.
They will flower until next May. The beautiful lime-green flowers and large leaves are popped around the garden.

Here are the jobs you can do in the garden during November:
- Gather seeds that are ripe, put them in a paper bag until spring
- Keep pathways clear of leaves to avoid slipping
- Begin winter pruning of fruit trees
- Plant garlic
- Dig up and divide perennials – this creates more plants and also encourages healthy growth from them
- Plant spring-flowering bulbs this month as it will be the last opportunity to do so
