Scéal Eile

October 16-20

The Adult Literacy Service offered through Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) has collaborated with the multi-Oscar-nominated animation studios, Cartoon Saloon, on an engaging family learning project called One Book One Film For All.

The aim of the initiative is to use the award-winning Cartoon Saloon book and movie WolfWalkers as an opportunity to read, watch and discuss the film as a family learning initiative and to enjoy a programme of supporting activities.

One of these events is Scéal Eile, which is being held in Rothe House from the 16th to the 20th of October and will be a fun family writing activity for both adults and children. More information can be found about that through the KCETB website by clicking here.

Savour Kilkenny

October 27

2023 marks the 15th instalment of the fabulous Savour Kilkenny Food Festival, running from October 27 to 30.

Sarah of Kilkenny’s Wild Grazer company will be returning to Rothe House & Garden to teach her very popular (and now sold out!) Cheese and Charcuterie class. She will be showing attendees how to choose and display the best of Irish cheese and charcuterie and how to make up the perfect presentation board for yourself or your friends!

More information on Savour Kilkenny can be found via their website here.

Music in Kilkenny

October 29

As part of this year’s stellar Music in Kilkenny lineup, Rothe House & Garden will be hosting two events, the first of which is at 4pm on Sunday, October 29.

Spirit of Gambo will perform music by William Byrd, in celebration of the 400 years since the great composer’s birth in 1623. Of particular interest will be a performance of music from the collection at Marsh’s Library in Dublin, researched and selected by Spirit of Gambo’s director and treble viol player, Freek Borstlap.

Tickets for this concert cost €20 (full price), €15 (concession), and €5 (students). To book tickets for this concert, visit Music in Kilkenny’s website here.

November 29

The second of Music in Kilkenny’s concerts at Rothe House takes place at 8pm on Wednesday, November 29.

Combining the gorgeous, warm tones of lute and viola da gamba with an enchanting soprano voice, internationally renowned artists Anna Dennis, Jonas Nordberg, and Liam Byrne will share a programme of exquisite arias, madrigals, and instrumentals. They will include works by Dowland, Monteverdi, Purcell, and Telemann in what is set to be an intimate and captivating concert.
