School pupils who visit us at Rothe House and Garden are guaranteed to have fun as well as learn.
With staff in character and costume, children will have the opportunity to learn about the fascinating Rothe Family and life in Renaissance Kilkenny as they wander through the rooms, courtyards and gardens.
Pupils will get to dress up in costume themselves and feel what it was like to be ladies and gentlemen of various occupations in Medieval and Renaissance Kilkenny.
Our garden provides a wonderful opportunity for pupils to learn about horticulture – hands on! The sights, smells and tastes of our garden are the perfect way for children to appreciate the seasons and how they affect what was available to eat in the 17th century.
The tour is structured to enable pupils to gather information and satisfy curiosity as we know they come to interact, not just to listen. It is designed to complement the Social, Environmental and Scientific Education strand of the National School Curriculum.
We can accommodate a maximum of 35 pupils per session. Each session will last 2-2.5 hours.
We provide stationery and other materials for completing worksheets – please click here to see an example of our primary school worksheet. There are bathroom and cloakroom facilities available. There are no refreshments provided, but there are many shops and cafes nearby.
School visits need to be booked 1 month in advance and will cost €2.50 per pupil. Please click here to make a booking/enquiry.
